This is a 9.1 cheese pizza Dave Portnoy rated pizzeria. I had the same cheese pizza. I found the pizza to be very heavy and didn't have much crunch. Maybe it was in the box too long. I was there when it was very busy and had to wait in line for 15 min to pay. Suggestion if the line is long to pay get in line 15 minutes before your pizza is ready. This way it will be fresh. I found the sauce to be average and the cheese to be average. I rate the cheese pizza a 7.6, sorry Dave. However I also had a long pepper, Mushroom pizza and it had much better flavor. Spicy and delicious. Still heavy and not much crunch and floppy. I rate it 8.1. I also had a cheese steak sub. The meat was high quality, the sesame bun was fresh, I had the cheese they suggested, can't remember the cheese it was not provolone, American or cheese wiz. I also added lettuce and mayonnaise. It was very delicious, I rate it a 8.4 out of 10. I interviewed 5 people in line and they were all ordering the cheese steak and they all said it was the best they ever had. I give an overall rating of 8.1 for this restaurant. Ambiance is take out only. Service is cool, people nice, very busy environment. I was impressed with the operation. The line was long however moved fast. You order your pizza first then when it is ready in approximately 20 min you pay.

Enjoyed the pizza from Angelo's. The Margarita pizza was a good amount of cheese and fresh basil. Recommend calling to order in advance and pickup. They offer paper plates and napkins as well to go. Street parking is available, but may have to search a little to find.

I have been a major fan of the original Tony Luke's and decided this visit to try Angelo's. What a really wonderful difference between cheese steak sandwiches. This is a nicely quality cut beef, with chopped grilled onions and provolone. With really nice flavor and not oily. You order on the left and pick up and pay pn the right. Cash only, cash machine in the front in case you need it. the major difference was the toasted fresh sesame seed bread high gave the sandwich a different texture and flavor than others Just so good. I will have to balance my now Tony and Nicks with Angelo's for future!

//5 stars for food, service and ambiance of waiting for food. TIP: Cash only; if you are ordering, stand in line on the left of the building, have patience because it is good. Ordering: There are 2 lines. The one of the left of the building is for ordering your food; the one on the right is after you order, waiting for the food. Please look at the menu ahead. The counter person is pleasant but have an idea of what to order to avoid ordering the wrong thing. Wait time: It depends how busy it is. I went in May, on a Saturday, around lunch time and I waited approximately 40 min (worth the wait) Food: As recommended, I got a plain cheesesteak, copper cheddar with onion. The crispy roll with sesame seeds had a delicious crisp contrast to the tender, well seasoned, steak and cheese. I highly recommend ordering as is with the onions because you will not be deterred from the sandwich as they are well cooked and finely chopped. Customer service: They are the most patient individuals I met while traveling. Even with a busy day, they are willing to help and listen to your order. I got the opposite interaction at Geno's where the counter lady asked "What do you need?" With an attitude as I wanted to order a drink. Bonus: Please also ask about their pizza, apparently they make great pies. Overall: Worth the line, worth the lane, worth getting cash. Enjoy

Cheesesteak might be the new number 1! The bread is the highlight but everything else was fantastic.

The pizza was good, but not amazing. You can skip it. But the cheeseteak was so good. This is the best cheesesteak I've ever had. Call ahead. You wait 30-40 minutes otherwise.

I've been a Philadelphia resident for 614 days and I am proud to say I have FINALLY experienced my first ever Angelo's cheesesteak. Cooper sharp. Onions. Perfection. However, obtaining said cheesesteak is no easy feat. Let's walk through my experience: 1) Dial the number to order ahead. It took me only 22 tries to get through, which I've heard is on the lower end. Order your cheesesteak. 2) Get excited when the woman on the telephone says 20 minutes only. 3) Get sad when you actually wait an HOUR and 20 minutes outside on the hottest day of the year. 4) Eat the best thing you've ever tasted and watch all hanger dissipate. Angelo's isn't to blame for the horrendous wait time in this case - they said they had multiple orders of 15+ cheesesteaks right in a row and that's just...wild. Also my fault for ordering on a Friday afternoon knowing full well there were multiple conferences and tourists in town. Also I've been told by folks that staff here can be "rude" but that wasn't my experience at ALL. Staff was DIRECT undoubtedly but no different than normal "we're the busiest business in the city" Philadelphia directness. You need to come correct, know what you ordered and how the process works, have cash, and your experience will be fabulous. I literally cannot wait to get back and try the pizza but will definitely be doing so in off peak hours. You can go eat in Cipriani Park or do as my dining mate and I did: head into the Italian Market and eat with a bottle of wine in the Di Bruno Bros bottle shop. 10/10. Till next time, beautiful.

On my first trip to Philadelphia I requested to my pro bono tour guide and suggested Angelo's as the must philly cheesesteak. We went the pro tip route, which was to call ahead and place our order. This is not for the weak, as you will have to call multiple times to get through, but trust this effort is worth it. Our order - a cheesesteak with cooper sharp cheese and onions. We called, we waited, we walked over and waited some more. You can wait in line and order there, but why wait in line outside longer than you have to? Angelo's is definitely a hot spot - people are lining up down the block for these cheesesteaks and pizzas. After about a hour, our cheesesteak was secured. Let me tell you, it was GLORIOUS. It is huge - definitely shareable. The bread is pure perfection and it is soft, while still holding up to the ridiculous amount of beef and cheese they stuff inside. I'm here to say, worth the wait and also deserving of the hype. Keep in mind it is cash only. Also - sometimes IYKYK places like this can be overwhelming and confusing when it comes to ordering but this was not the case at Angelo's. They have a good system and will call your name loudly once your order is ready. Go forth and unlock your best cheesesteak life, you deserve it!
